Leaf Bunting with Abi

Image
Follow this post to bring some of the outside inside by decorating your home with some leaf bunting! Use leaves you find on your walk or in your garden to make some natural bunting. You can also try experimenting with other natural things such as flowers, feathers or even shells.         You will need:  - Leaves or other natural things such as flowers, seeds, twigs etc.  - A large-eyed needle - String. Use a large-eyed needle to thread your leaves onto the string.  If you don’t have a needle use a pencil and Plasticine instead.         Tape the end of your string to help threading. Tie a knot between each leaf. And you're done!         Use your bunting to decorate your home!  Share your artwork with us by tagging @aspex_takepart and using the hashtag #AspexatHome

Flower Pressing

Image
Hi everyone! In this post, we will be flower pressing, so you'll need to hunt for some in your garden, or find some flowers on a walk! You will need: - Flowers - Books or a flower press - Blotting paper or kitchen roll You can press flowers using a press or using books. I am using blotting paper, but you can also use kitchen roll Place your blotting paper and flowers between the pages of a big book. Add weight to the book with books and other heavy items.   I pressed these flowers for 10 days - this is what they look like now! You can do lots of crafty things with your pressed flowers, I stuck mine to different bits of paper and card and made a hanging display. Momentary Sculptures with Abi

Image
Hello, I ’ m Abi and welcome to Aspex at Home! In this post, we’re creating momentary sculptures inspired by Peter Fischli and David Weiss. I hope you have lots of fun, and remember to try lots of different objects! You’ll need to collect some interesting objects from around the house, or you could try to find some on a walk to make nature-themed sculptures. Try out how different objects look together!     Place your objects in interesting ways and balance them - quickly snap a photo before they fall! You'll need to take the photographs quickly after you let go - so you might need an assistant to help you out.  Share your artwork with us by tagging @aspex_takepart and using the hashtag #AspexatHome.

Bird Feeders

Image
In this post, we are going to be making bird feeders! I have been spending a lot of time in the garden with my little boy over the past few  weeks and we have really enjoyed feeding the birds,  so we thought this week we would have a go at making our own bird feeders - and we’d love for you to join in too!  You can keep these really simple or get creative with your designs, choosing different shapes and creating patterns with your seeds. You will need:  - Cardboard  - Pencil or Pen - Bird Seed - Peanut butter (or coconut oil)  - String or ribbon  - Teaspoon  - Scissors      Draw & Cut Out: First you need to draw a shape onto cardboard. You can design your own or draw around an object from your house.  Cut out your shape and make a small hole in the top for later - you may need a grown-up to help with this bit. Spread: Spread peanut butter onto your shape using the back of a teaspoon.  Sprinkle: Cover your shape with bi...

Leaf Transfer Painting with Russel

Image
In this post, we are going to be making leaf transfer prints using hammers with the help of Russell!   Hello, Russell here!  Welcome to another Aspex at Home activity. Make sure you w atch out for those fingers and ensure you protect the surface you’re hammering on.        You will need: - Some heavy weight cotton like canvas or calico, if you haven’t got any of that, consider an old tote bag you can cut up.  - A selection of leaves - A hammer       This video will show you how hammering the leaves between the fabric creates the transfer! Be really careful of your worktops & make sure an adult helps with this one. Here are some examples I made from different leaves. You can experiment with different types & patterns - some flowers can also work well with this! Have fun experimenting with the possibilities! Leaf Crowns & Wreaths

Image
In this post, we’re going to be using leaves to make crowns and wreaths. If you’re not able to get out to collect leaves you can always draw leaves and flowers onto paper and cut them out. You will need: - Cardboard - Scissors - Glue - Leaves If your cardboard isn’t big enough to go around your head, you’ll need a hole punch and some string. Cut out a strip from your cardboard box. You can use a cereal box or something similar! Punch holes into the strip and tie string to either side. Make sure the string is long enough to reach all the way around your head Arrange your leaves onto the crown. And when the glue is dry, your crown is ready to wear! To make a wreath, you can cut out the middle of a paper plate, and arrange your leaves. If you don’t have a paper plate, use some cardboard and draw round a plate.
