Threading

Image
In this post, we are doing threading! You can use lots of different things from around your home to make beads, but today I’m using straws, cardboard and pasta. Hope everyone enjoys it! You will need: - Thread - Scissors - Objects such as pasta, beads, cardboard, paper straws, etc You can get creative with what you can find to use as beads on your garland. If you're using a straw, cut it into small shapes. Tie a bead to the end of the string, and use tape to make a point on the other end. This will make it easier to thread. Punch holes in the card, and then cut round them to make shapes. Curved pasta like I used can be tricky to thread with, penne is a good choice for little ones.   This is one I've made to show you some ideas! Share your artwork with us on Instagram by tagging @aspex_takepart and using the hashtag #AspexatHome.

Bird Feeders

Image
In this post, we are going to be making bird feeders! I have been spending a lot of time in the garden with my little boy over the past few  weeks and we have really enjoyed feeding the birds,  so we thought this week we would have a go at making our own bird feeders - and we’d love for you to join in too!  You can keep these really simple or get creative with your designs, choosing different shapes and creating patterns with your seeds. You will need:  - Cardboard  - Pencil or Pen - Bird Seed - Peanut butter (or coconut oil)  - String or ribbon  - Teaspoon  - Scissors      Draw & Cut Out: First you need to draw a shape onto cardboard. You can design your own or draw around an object from your house.  Cut out your shape and make a small hole in the top for later - you may need a grown-up to help with this bit. Spread: Spread peanut butter onto your shape using the back of a teaspoon.  Sprinkle: Cover your shape with bi...

Paperchain Dolls with Jordan

Image
In this post, we're going to be creating paperchain dolls with the help of Jordan! Hi everyone! Jordan here, today I wanted to share with you a really fun way of creating some playful paper dolls. My daughter Ivy absolutely loved doing this. She enjoyed playing with them and taking them on adventures.          You can decide to create all your characters to be similar and a practical way of achieving continuity is to create a paper template. Sketch a figure and cut it out. If not you can draw all your characters individually! To create your paper dolls the paper being used has to be quite strong. If you have card that's great! If not, just use something like a cereal box like I have done. You will now have to use the template you created and draw around it as many times as you wish. Make sure you link the characters hands to form a chain! Make it as long as you wish! The next step is to use any drawing, colouring or sticking ma...

Wiggling Fish

Image
In this post, we’re making fish out of toilet roll tubes. A grown up might need to do the cutting but little ones can have fun with the decorating and making a home for their fish. Enjoy!      You will need: - Toilet roll tubes - Scissors -Pens, paint or crayons You can also use p aint or si lver foil and glue to decorate your fish.            Cut your toilet roll tube like this to make your fish. There's a fish shape template at the bottom of this post. The fish can now be coloured however you like, or collaged like I have done here with this silver foil Why not make a pond for your fish to live in? You can also make other creatures like tadpoles.          You can also make other creatures like tadpoles Here is a template of how to cut your fish and tadpoles. It can be quite fiddly, so you can make the designs a bit simpler if you wish! Share your artwork with us b...

Paperback Books with Jordan

Image
In this post, we're going to making our own books using paper with the help of Jordan! Hi everyone! It’s Jordan here! I am going to show you how to make a simple folded book that only uses paper and scissors. You can then fill it with anything you'd like - maybe what you have been up to or your goals. You can decorate it using anything you have around the house. You will need: - Paper - Scissors - Pens to decorate First, grab a sheet of paper. Bigger is best as you will end up with a bigger book. Though any sized paper will work for you. You can even try using envelopes or cut down cereal boxes if you don’t have spare paper. Fold your paper into 8 sections. Next, you need to cut the centre fold line. Make sure you cut it on the folded edge. Cut only half the line so you reach the centre of the paper. Stand your paper to make this shape, the middle will want to naturally fold in onto itself. Push everything to the centre. Fold the pages down to make a conventional...

Make a Gallery with Jordan

Image
In this post, we're going to make our very own galleries at home with the help of our friend Jordan. Hey everyone! Jordan here, I created my gallery with my daughter Ivy and based it around one of Aspex's previous exhibitions Daphne . You will need: - A box - Paper - Scissors - Pens or pencils - Glue - And things to decorate      A box is great to make your gallery in, but get creative and use what you can  from around the house! With the help of an adult, cut your box so you're able to open it out, like a nice big gallery space.  Use glue and paper to give your space some colour. Next is the really fun bit, draw some mini artworks and stick them to the walls of your gallery. You can come up with your own pieces of artwork or make smaller versions of someone else's!  An exhibition is created by an artist. Who is the artist in your gallery? In mine it's Sarah Taylor Silverwood - I've recreated her real work from Aspex! Share your artwor...
