Finger Painting with Jordan

Image
Hi everyone. It’s Jordan this time for Family Saturdays at Home I’m showing you how to finger paint!         You will need:  - A small amount of paint - Paper  - Pens - You'll need to plan for messy fingers too! After making different shapes and patterns with the paint, I waited for it to dry to draw them into animals! Here I've created shapes out of paint and I'm waiting for it to dry! It shouldn't take too long if the paint is quite thin. These are animals I've drawn! What will you make? I also created a family portrait gallery! Collage Old Art

Image
In this post, we are going to be making collages by reusing our old artwork!  You will need: - Old artwork you don't mind cutting up - Scissors - Glue - Paper to collage on I made some collaged plants as an example but you can make anything you like by cutting, tearing and sticking some of your old paintings and drawings.        Look at your old artwork for your favourite bits, or bits that work together. Try looking for pictures in abstract pieces of work. I decided to use the green paintings to make a picture of this plant. I used a cereal box for the plant pot. This is what it looks like all put together! Here are some more plants I made from my old paintings. Tea Bag Painting

Image
Hi everyone! In this post, we’re using herbal and fruit tea bags to paint with and some other things from around the kitchen to create different effects. You will need: - Tea bags - Paintbrushes - Paper - Mugs and hot water      Pour hot water into your cups as if you were making a tea. Make sure an adult help you with this! Now you can paint using the tea with a brush if you have one, or use the tea bag. Make sure you wait until the tea has cooled to use it! The colours look a little different when they have dried. Use lemon juice to change the colour and create a tie-dye effect. The tea I’m using here is the cranberry and raspberry. This effect was made using table salt and salt flakes. Don ’ t forget to share your artwork with us on Instagram by tagging @aspex_takepart and using the hashtag #AspexatHome - we’d love to see what you make!

Paperchain Dolls with Jordan

Image
In this post, we're going to be creating paperchain dolls with the help of Jordan! Hi everyone! Jordan here, today I wanted to share with you a really fun way of creating some playful paper dolls. My daughter Ivy absolutely loved doing this. She enjoyed playing with them and taking them on adventures.          You can decide to create all your characters to be similar and a practical way of achieving continuity is to create a paper template. Sketch a figure and cut it out. If not you can draw all your characters individually! To create your paper dolls the paper being used has to be quite strong. If you have card that's great! If not, just use something like a cereal box like I have done. You will now have to use the template you created and draw around it as many times as you wish. Make sure you link the characters hands to form a chain! Make it as long as you wish! The next step is to use any drawing, colouring or sticking ma...

Wiggling Fish

Image
In this post, we’re making fish out of toilet roll tubes. A grown up might need to do the cutting but little ones can have fun with the decorating and making a home for their fish. Enjoy!      You will need: - Toilet roll tubes - Scissors -Pens, paint or crayons You can also use p aint or si lver foil and glue to decorate your fish.            Cut your toilet roll tube like this to make your fish. There's a fish shape template at the bottom of this post. The fish can now be coloured however you like, or collaged like I have done here with this silver foil Why not make a pond for your fish to live in? You can also make other creatures like tadpoles.          You can also make other creatures like tadpoles Here is a template of how to cut your fish and tadpoles. It can be quite fiddly, so you can make the designs a bit simpler if you wish! Share your artwork with us b...

Window Galleries

Image
In this post, we are going to be making gallery displays for our windows. You can design these to look however you want! Draw the images you want to put in your gallery - I made a rainbow and some colourful flowers and a sun.  Tip: stick to the same few colours to make all your pictures tie together. Stick your images into a window - you can use sticky tack or tape for this.       Another way to make pictures in your window is to use felt tip directly onto the glass. Remember to use washable, not permanent markers!       This gives a stained glass window effect - this is my rainbow reflected back into the room! To see your pictures better from the outside, stick some white paper on the window as a background Share your artwork with us by tagging @aspex_takepart and using the hashtag #AspexatHome

Natural Paints

Image
In this post, we are going to be using ingredients from our kitchen to make our own homemade paints! Here's what you'll need: - Paper - Water - A mixing bowl  - Some foods you can use to make paint:  paprika, turmeric, coffee grounds - Paint brush       Just mix whatever you choose to make paint from with water, into a watery paste & start your painting.       For the painting on the left, I used strained coffee and coffee with grounds in it for texture. Paperback Books with Jordan

Image
In this post, we're going to making our own books using paper with the help of Jordan! Hi everyone! It’s Jordan here! I am going to show you how to make a simple folded book that only uses paper and scissors. You can then fill it with anything you'd like - maybe what you have been up to or your goals. You can decorate it using anything you have around the house. You will need: - Paper - Scissors - Pens to decorate First, grab a sheet of paper. Bigger is best as you will end up with a bigger book. Though any sized paper will work for you. You can even try using envelopes or cut down cereal boxes if you don’t have spare paper. Fold your paper into 8 sections. Next, you need to cut the centre fold line. Make sure you cut it on the folded edge. Cut only half the line so you reach the centre of the paper. Stand your paper to make this shape, the middle will want to naturally fold in onto itself. Push everything to the centre. Fold the pages down to make a conventional...
