Embossing with Jordan

Image
Hi everyone! Jordan here, I hope you are all well! In this post, we will be making a family timeline using custom motifs that represent ourselves and embossing them. Scroll through to find out how to make it! You will need: - Thick paper or card - Scissors - A spoon - Pen - Tape As well as these items, we need to use a clean kitchen or bathroom sink. TOP TIP! This process works best on thicker paper! Soak your paper to soften the fibers. Fill your clean sink with water about a finger's depth will suffice. Fully submerge your paper into the water and soak for a minimum 10 mins. You may want to add a timer. Note! You may want to get stages 2 to 4 done within this 10 minute or so time scale. If not just leave your paper in the water until you are done. On your cereal box card draw your motif out 3 times. TIP! It’s best to keep your shape super simple, try to translate your image into a silhouette with clean edges as seen in the image. Once drawn out cut out all 3 symbols and glue / ta...

Bird Feeders

Image
In this post, we are going to be making bird feeders! I have been spending a lot of time in the garden with my little boy over the past few  weeks and we have really enjoyed feeding the birds,  so we thought this week we would have a go at making our own bird feeders - and we’d love for you to join in too!  You can keep these really simple or get creative with your designs, choosing different shapes and creating patterns with your seeds. You will need:  - Cardboard  - Pencil or Pen - Bird Seed - Peanut butter (or coconut oil)  - String or ribbon  - Teaspoon  - Scissors      Draw & Cut Out: First you need to draw a shape onto cardboard. You can design your own or draw around an object from your house.  Cut out your shape and make a small hole in the top for later - you may need a grown-up to help with this bit. Spread: Spread peanut butter onto your shape using the back of a teaspoon.  Sprinkle: Cover your shape with bi...

Origami Butterflies with Russell

Image
Hello, Russell here. Welcome to another edition of Aspex Family Saturday’s at Home. What we’re going to be doing today is making origami butterflies and cranes.  What you’ll need for this is some origami paper; don’t worry if you haven’t got any, consider using pages from an old book, an old map or maybe even downloading some textures or patterns offline, print them off onto A4 paper and them make them into square pieces.  Then once you’ve got those, follow the tutorials, see how it’s done and see what you can make, have fun! To learn how to make the crane, copy this link to your browser: https://bit.ly/3eshIrw Don't forget to share your creations with us on Instagram @aspex_takepart using the hashtag #AspexatHome.

Leaf Transfer Painting with Russel

Image
In this post, we are going to be making leaf transfer prints using hammers with the help of Russell!   Hello, Russell here!  Welcome to another Aspex at Home activity. Make sure you w atch out for those fingers and ensure you protect the surface you’re hammering on.        You will need: - Some heavy weight cotton like canvas or calico, if you haven’t got any of that, consider an old tote bag you can cut up.  - A selection of leaves - A hammer       This video will show you how hammering the leaves between the fabric creates the transfer! Be really careful of your worktops & make sure an adult helps with this one. Here are some examples I made from different leaves. You can experiment with different types & patterns - some flowers can also work well with this! Have fun experimenting with the possibilities! Make a Gallery with Jordan

Image
In this post, we're going to make our very own galleries at home with the help of our friend Jordan. Hey everyone! Jordan here, I created my gallery with my daughter Ivy and based it around one of Aspex's previous exhibitions Daphne . You will need: - A box - Paper - Scissors - Pens or pencils - Glue - And things to decorate      A box is great to make your gallery in, but get creative and use what you can  from around the house! With the help of an adult, cut your box so you're able to open it out, like a nice big gallery space.  Use glue and paper to give your space some colour. Next is the really fun bit, draw some mini artworks and stick them to the walls of your gallery. You can come up with your own pieces of artwork or make smaller versions of someone else's!  An exhibition is created by an artist. Who is the artist in your gallery? In mine it's Sarah Taylor Silverwood - I've recreated her real work from Aspex! Share your artwor...
